It has been a great winter so far and we were delighted the weather conditions were so good as to ensure our J80 Sports Boats got out for what is probably the last of our Corporate Sailing Days for 2018. Super fun was had by all during their few hours of training before coming into the warm bar to celebrate Ireland’s momentous defeat the of All Blacks!
There were smiles all round as some of our visitors got their first spin on one of our J80 Sports Boats yesterday as we joined in with Ray D’Arcy and RTE’s Join A Club Day. We got to talk to Ray live on air as well so there was a great buzz going!
The Transition Year programme is taken by students after the Junior Certificate and before the two-year Leaving Certificate available in secondary schools in Ireland. Also known as the gap year it can be optional or mandatory depending on the school’s policy. Nearly 80 per cent of pupils surveyed by the Irish Second-Level Students’ Union (ISSU) found TY to be a worthwhile experience, according to a 2014 report, Transition Year: Exploring the Student Experience.
We have an exciting line-up of Quest Howth – Discover Sailing courses as part of our newly launched Transition Year Programme. Launching in September 2018 right into 2019. We believe this is the perfect ‘Gap Year’ for any transition year student looking to learn new skills on and off the water whilst having fun. Sailing nurtures personal development and enhances communication skills in young adults, equipping them with confidence and new skills that can be later applied to real world situations. Quest Howth’s TY Programme is launching this September and October 2018 with ‘Keelboat Sailing on J/80’s’. All transition year students who enroll in this course ranging from absolute beginners to mixed ability are welcome. It is a pretty unique opportunity to learn to sail with your friends over 5 day week days under the supervision of an Irish Sailing accredited Quest Howth sailing instructor. Choose a week to suit your school and let the Quest Howth team you are interested. We provide the all weather sailing gear for all students including waterproof jackets, trousers and buoyancy aids.
Each Transition Year Quest Howth participant will receive an Irish Sailing Qualification Certificate. The cost of the 5 day TY course, ‘Keelboat Sailing on J/80’s’ is €225 (Howth Yacht Club Members) or €275 for (Non Members).
The Adventure Week TY Programme with Quest Howth offers students with some sailing experience the opportunity to develop their sailing skills further in a friendly relaxed environment. Working together in groups of 3 to 5 sailors they will plan passages to destinations like Skerries, Lambay Island, Malahide and Dun Laoghaire or Greystones. A Quest Howth Sailing instructor guides you safely on longer trips on J/80 keelboats out of Howth Yacht Club each day. Sailing and navigating longer trips enables students to play an active role on cruising holidays and visit interesting harbours and anchorages along the Dublin coastline.

Adult sailing courses at Quest Howth have a strong emphasis on the adult complete beginner and we send you on the a sail training path to get you out on the water learning new sailing skills on our courses. At Quest Howth, we believe, that the “Apres Sailing” is as important as the sailing itself. Every Quest Howth participant can avail of Howth Yacht Club’s facilities throughout their sailing course duration. Adult Sailing Courses at Quest Howth range from complete beginner sailing courses to advanced sailing courses. All our courses are Irish Sailing accredited which certifies you along the recommended Irish Sail training pathway.
Although, our Junior Sailing Courses are full for 2018, we are open to booking all junior sailing courses for 2019.

Also, four Cara Na Mara sailing participants have agreed to feature in a video diary of their sailing experience each day on Quest Howth sailing courses. We an Otter and a Seal on board to share their story. We are still looking for volunteers to represent Cara Na Mara’s Dolphin and Orca group. Quest Howth – Discover Sailing promised a new sailing experience with plenty of après sailing socialising activities for all newcomers interested in starting sailing. To ensure this is a continuous one and that we keep all our Quest Howth participants engaged, we are launching a new Quest Howth Winter Sailing Programme. Some of the best sailing in Ireland takes place over the winter months especially up to December. Although temperatures do drop and with the right sailing gear, many a winter’s day sailing brings sunshine and good strong steady winds. Winter sailing is challenging but also exhilarating and rewarding. Lots of sailing lessons are learned in these challenging conditions making summer conditions a breeze. To run along side our on-the-water Quest Howth Winter Sailing Programme is a broad range of theory sailing courses on land.
